[December 15, 2005] Paul Kolker: “A good image is good luck” — Paul Kolker’s recent work is rooted in the graphic and pixilated world of our contemporary culture of media and information. His subject is fractionated into elemental components of pure, pigmented hues of color in a style which he calls fracolor. Through his multi-stepped technical process of fractionation, painting and silk-screening, he orchestrates rhythmic (mathematical) and poetic (mystical) undertones throughout his large scale paintings.
Completed in December 2004, a series entitled a good image is good luck captures a celebratory circle and chair dance depicted with a bold and harmonic color balance. Optical color mixing and definition enable the abstracted image when viewed up close to appear figurative from afar.
